Finding somewhere to live in Dubai is not difficult, depending on your budget and requirements. There is a huge number of estate agents advertising properties for sale or rent in the classified sections of the local daily newspapers. Whether you are looking for a house, apartment or shared accommodation, and dependent on your income, you will find it here somewhere. In addition, the local supermarkets have notice boards where accommodation is advertised, usually by private individuals. Prices in Dubai depend on the location of the property, and the facilities of the compound (housing estate). Villas in a compound often have access to a gym, swimming pool, tennis courts and park; whereas single villas would have no additional facilities. The most expensive villas tend to be in the established upmarket areas of Jumeirah, Umm Sequiem, and Safa. Cheaper villas are available in Satwa and Garhoud. Some areas of Rashidiya, Mirdif, Al Barsha and Al Quoz are attracting increasing numbers of expatriates looking for value for money. There are a number of suburban purpose-built complexes that are available for expatriates to buy, including The Meadows, The Greens, The Springs, The Lakes, Arabian Ranches, Jumeirah Islands, Emirates Hills and the famous Palm. Properties here can also be found to rent. For apartments, the more popular areas are around Bur Dubai, the Sheikh Zayed Road, and now the exclusive development of Dubai Marina. Cheaper options can be found in Deira, Satwa and Karama. Many of the more expensive apartments come with gym and pool facilities plus covered car parking. If you are successful with your application with Emirates, you may be eligible for an accommodation allowance, or supplied with a furnished villa or apartment. As a general indication, a two bedroom apartment will cost Dhs50,000-70,000 per year, and a three bedroom villa, Dhs85,000-170,000. Utilities, such as power and water are additional costs. Some may include air-conditioning and other costs, but it is best to check first and shop around. To find out more, click onto the following links:
