Top 10 things we are doing for the environment
1. Maximising efficiency by moving passengers over a geo-central hub using large commercial aircraft.
2. Emirates worked with the Australian Government to introduce Flex Track, a sophisticated flight routing technology that saves time and fuel. Flex Track can save up to 8% of fuel in the right conditions. Flex Track-style systems are now also being introduced in the Maldives and Indonesia. We are working with Sri Lanka and hoping to extend this concept into Indian airspace.
3. Emirates has completed 100% electronic ticketing and operates a paperless ticket environment. Emirates flight crews are using Electronic Flight Bags which reduce paper based documentation and manuals - moving towards a paperless cockpit environment.
4. In 2008, we opened the new Emirates Group Headquarters building which houses the vast majority of the Emirates Group in one state-of-the-art building that reduces the need for multiple locations and is more energy efficient. Reducing power and lighting usage and using motion sensor lighting. Investing in other energy efficient plants and buildings (modern maintenance facilities and airport infrastructure).
5. In Dubai, Emirates has planted tens of thousands of trees and plants at staff accommodation sites such as Silicon Oasis, the new Headquarters building and other locations/premises.
6. All Emirates Hotels & Resorts practice waste separation and recycling. Staff awareness training, guest water and waste reduction advice, and bio-degradable hotel chemical selection is all practiced.
7. Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC) is the most modern facility of its kind in the world using advanced technology to maximise efficiency and minimise waste and energy. This includes one-way process flows, electronic monorail transport systems, advanced warewash systems and vacuum waste handling. EKFC also uses new racking systems to reduce glass breakage and waste which therefore requires less resource use and replacement.
8. Dnata has a long-standing environment policy and regularly trains, implements and audits their activities against these standards. Dnata’s operations are ISO certified in Dubai along with various outstations.
9. Dnata’s annual cleaning of the Dubai creek programme sees employees donning scuba gear to help keep Dubai’s famous waterway cleaner each year.
10. The Emirates Airline Foundation – a charitable organisation supported by the Emirates Group and our customers – supports many community and environmentally related programmes worldwide.
